We just finish up with quarter 1 of the semester and it has been very interesting. I started off this quarter with my ImagineIt in mind. I allowed my students to complete a styles of learning survey. I mentioned that in the past I have done this before, but I never really implemented lessons based on my students learning styles. Allowing my students to work together on activities based on their strengths has allowed my students to be more successful and more confident. I have been implementing lessons that require my students to work in cooperative groups. I also started implementing Kagan strategies. Kagan Structure/Strategies are use to increase academic achievement, improve ethnic relations, enhance self-esteem, create a more harmonious classroom climate, reduce discipline problems, and develop students' social skills. Using Kagan as part of my ImagineIt has really boosted my students self-esteem which is a skill needed for 21st learning and working. This semester I also took my students on a field trip to HoneyWell corporation, where the students were able to talk to astronaut. This field trip allowed my students to see the importance of working together. The astronaut talked about the importance of working as team to accomplish a mission. He really emphasized the fact that without working together as a team the mission to space would have been impossible. In the future I plan on taking my students on more field trips that require individuals to work together to complete task.
